“In late 1970, Beijing quietly changed its stance towards Singapore…By 1971, China stopped the public attacks on the Singapore government”- Lee Kuan Yew, From Third World to First.

Have you ever been targeted by high forces before? Be it at the workplace, school or even within a competitive market. It can be very frustrating, especially when you want to be in the good books of your oppressor; mainly because you do not have the necessary arsenal to fight back. The big question is, “What do you do?”. Let me share with you Singapore’s strategy.

“China’s priority then was to get as many governments as possible to close ranks against the Soviet Union and expansion of its influence in South East Asia” – Lee Kuan Yew, From Third World to First. What Singapore did was to find out what China’s priority was and then find a way to be strategically part of that agenda. They identified a common enemy and used that as a middle ground to rebuild their relationship with China because they realised that their enemies too have enemies.

Till we meet again, I charge you to find your ‘enemies enemy’, and that could be your breakthrough.
